Libya has been elected as a member of the executive office of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports, affiliated with the Arab League, Hamza Al-Mahdawi, Director of the Information and Media Department at the Ministry of Sports, confirmed to "The Libya Observer" Friday.

"Minister of Sports Abdul Shafi Al-Juwifi was unanimously elected to the role at the conclusion of the Council's meetings held in the Egyptian capital on Thursday."

Al-Juwifi will occupy Libya's seat in the council's executive office along with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Tunisia, the Emirates, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt.

Al-Mahdawi indicated that the new executives would pilot the sports affairs in the Arab region during the year.

Also joining the election session were Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Faisal Ghassal, Director of the Youth and Sports Department at the League, and an array of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports.
