A match on Sunday between Al Ittihad and Esperance of Tunisia for the preliminary round of the African Champions League ended with a goalless draw at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Al Ittihad labouring for much of the game in the first half but without posing any real danger to the guests' net.

Before the halftime whistle, the Esperance were near to scoring a goal and forced Al Ittihad keeper Moaz Al Lafi into a decent save.

After the break, Al Ittihad seemed out of shape from the start and gave a flat performance. Esperance of Tunisia came out gun blazing and kept on mounting counter-attacks, but all failed to pass the net line with two shots intercepted by the post.

On October 24, the two teams will meet for the second leg in the Tunisian capital to decide the qualifier for the African Champions League.
