An inspired win against Tunisian Sfaxien boosted Al-Ahly's hopes for qualifying for the Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

Al-Ahly beat Sfaxien 2-1 at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in the second round of the first group matches on Sunday.

A shot by defender Hedi Hammami of Sfaxien ended up in his team's net, giving Al-Ahly their first goal within the first five minutes before Saleh Al-Taher added the second goal in minute 52.

Sfaxien's only goal came from a penalty kick, shot by Ayman Harzi in minute 86.

Victory on Sunday moved Al-Ahly to second place with three points ahead of Tunisian Sfaxien.

The Pyramids lead the group standings with a full score (6), while Znaco is trailing in last place after receiving two losses.
