Traffic lights in Tripoli's Souq Aljumaa neighbourhood will go solar soon, local authorities announced on Tuesday.

The Municipal Council said China's ZTE has embarked on installing 14 solar-powered traffic lights across the neighbourhood. 3 solar traffic lights have been already installed.

"The solar light signals will continue to operate for up to 9 hours in case of power cuts." The municipality said in its official Facebook account.

Tripoli and other Libyan cities are suffering from power cuts, which last for several hours depending on the power output. Last summer, Tripoli went through a severe power crisis where outage rates reached 12 hours a day.
