A group of people with disabilities are near to opening a smart center in Libyan Ghadames, which would be the first of its kind in the country for developing the skills and abilities of this group of people.

Chairman of Group of Leaders of Access and Communication for Persons with Disabilities, Adel Aoun confirmed on Wednesday to the Libya Observer that the project has been approved by the Ministry of Planning and Finance and an inauguration ceremony would take place in the coming days.

According to Aoun, the center will be operated by cutting-edge applications and technologies in the accessibility field, including speaking text applications for the blind and letter enlargement for the visually impaired.

The center will include a driving school besides other training and courses in various fields such as computers. IT, traveling, and tourism services, according to Aoun.

"There will also be an online library which would serve as a "data bank" containing data and information to facilitate access to various services within the city," Aoun added.

The head of the Group of Leaders of Access and Communication for Persons with Disabilities emphasized that this is the first step towards a large-scale project to establish other centers across Libya.
