The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, says the emergent youth protest movement in Libya constitutes a clear call for the political class to overcome its differences and move towards national elections within a sound constitutional framework.

Williams made her comments during a meeting that grouped senior representatives from Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the United States in Istanbul on Thursday.

A tweet by the UN Rep. said she briefed the group on the developments following the UN-led meeting between the heads of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in late June in Geneva.

"We applauded Gen. Hadad's and Gen, Nadouri's recent Tripoli meeting with the Joint Military Commission and their commitment to upholding the ceasefire, the UN official added.

Turkey's meeting called for calm and underscored the need to protect the independence and neutrality of sovereign institutions, including the National Oil Corporation, and to shield them from political maneuvers.
