The UN Secretary General’s Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said setting a new date for elections is up to the relevant authorities in the country; the House of Representatives, the High National Elections Commission and the judiciary, adding that the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is always ready to assist in holding free and fair elections.

Williams added in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the decision on elections and the eligibility of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi's candidacy is up to Libyan judiciary, which should be respected by all parties, saying all those who were running for executive authority at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum provided written promises not to run for elections. She also called on all Libyans to respect the Libyan sovereignty and independence of the judiciary.

Williams said it is difficult to withdraw all mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya as it is a complicated process, adding that such a process must be done carefully so that it doesn't destabilize the neighboring countries, which needs time as well as coordination with relevant countries.

Williams said she doesn't work only on getting elections done but also on preserving sovereignty and security of Libya.
