The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has briefed the Vice-President of the Presidential Council Abdullah Al-Lafi on the upcoming consultations scheduled to take place in Cairo on 15 May between members of the joint committee formed by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The meeting took place on Monday in the presence of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Libya, Georgette Gagnon.

"We discussed the recent developments in the country, as well as the Presidency Council’s efforts on national reconciliation, Williams wrote on Twitter.

She said she used the opportunity to brief Vice President Al-Lafi on the upcoming Joint HoR/HCS Committee consultations aimed at rebuilding consensus on a solid constitutional track to enable the holding of national elections within a firm timeline.

Williams has recently met with Khalid Al-Mishri, head of the HCS, and Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, Deputy Speaker of the HoR, to pave the way for the Cairo meetings.
