The World Health Organization (WHO) condemned Wednesday the recurrent attacks on medical facilities, denouncing the recent assault on a medical facility in Sabha, southern Libya.

WHO said in a statement that it condemns the assault of an armed man on a WHO psychiatrist a few days ago inside a mental health facility in Sabha.

WHO said that the psychiatrist's name is Nidal Ali "and he is the only doctor with this specialization in the entire southern region in Libya."

"He has been referred to 203 cases in Sabha and Al-Shaati as well as Ubari. He gave medical consultations to tens of people in an area that has very few if any psychiatrists." WHO remarked.

WHO called on all parties in the Libyan conflict in Libya to respect the safety and neutrality of the health workers and health facilities.

"Incidents like this can and should be avoided as obligated by human rights law," WHO said.
