The Coast Guard in the western region has intercepted a boat filled with illegal immigrants off Al-Garaboulli shores as it was eyeing a quick and perilous route toward Italy.

The Head of the Deportation Office at the Fighting Illegal Immigration Center, Mustafa Idrees, said that upon a tipoff Monday morning that said there were 115 illegal immigrants from Mali, the Coast Guard personnel intercepted the boat that was bound to Europe off Al-Garaboulli shores, to the north of Tripoli and led it to Tripoli port.

Idrees also indicated, in a press statement Monday, that the Coast Guard informed the Libyan Red Crescent and medical authorities to make some medical checks on the migrants and to provide them with the needed assistance, pointing that they are now kept in Abu Salim shelter center until they get deported to Mali via Mitiga airport over the next days.
