The Counselor of the United States Department of State, Derek Chollet, has called for the implementation of the final touches on the Libyan electoral legislations.

This came during his meeting with the Head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khalid Al-Mishri, in Tripoli on Wednesday, at which Chollet mentioned that he had held objective discussions regarding the relevance of holding the national elections as scheduled in December.

“I have stressed both the American and international position regarding the necessity for all Libyan players to finalize electoral legislation that takes into account the legitimate interests of the people of Libya.” He added, according to the US embassy.

For his part, Al-Mishri confirmed the eagerness of the HCS to hold the elections on time, to ease the country out of its present transitional phase, indicating that the HCS is about to finalize the preparation of draft laws regulating the electoral process.
