The Democratic Senator Bob Menendez has warned that the United States could halt arms sales to the United Arab Emirates after reports have surfaced about the UAE's delivery of American missiles to Khalifa Haftar's forces in Libya.

AFP reported Tuesday that Menendez sent a letter to the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, calling on him to probe and look for clarifications regarding the arms deals with the UAE by mid-July.

"You know that if these allegations were true, you would have to cancel all arms sales to the UAE. Such a behavior and misuse of our arms constitutes a violation of the US laws and the UN ban of arms on Libya." The US Senator explained.

"This is dangerous, especially after the Trump administration has zigzagged an arms deal to Saudi Arabia and UAE worth 8.1 billion dollars outside the Congress." He added.

New York Times said that the US Department of Defense had opened an investigation into how the anti-tank missiles reached Libya to be used by Hafter's forces in the attacks against Tripoli.
