The US said Libyan oil revenue must remain under the oversight of the Tripoli-based National Oil Corporation (NOC).

The US Assistant Secretary of State, David Schenke, and ambassador Richard Norland met with the Chairman of NOC Mustafa Sanallah and reiterated US support for the NOC, saying it should be neutral and resourceful in order to work for all Libyans.

The NOC Chairman said earlier that the Interim Government in eastern Libya was attempting to sign contracts with Egyptian and UAE firms to sell them Libyan oil - $55 a barrel.

UNSMIL also said recently that it was following closely attempts to sell Libyan oil illicitly.

Schenke and Norland received on Monday at the US diplomatic mission office in Tunis, ambassadors of Britain, Germany, and France to Libya.

The meeting, according to US embassy on Twitter, was part of the ongoing international effort to halt the fighting in Tripoli and urge a prompt return to the UN-mediated political process.

Schenke and Norland met Sunday with UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame and told him that the US supports the UN efforts to reach a political settlement in Libya.
