A delegation from the United States has held a secret meeting with Khalifa Haftar in his headquarters in Al-Rajma, outside Benghazi in eastern Libya, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper has revealed.

The newspaper said Thursday that a high-ranking US delegation discussed with Haftar ceasefire efforts in Libya and proposals for the full retreat and withdrawal of military forces from Libyan Oil Crescent region.

Asharq Al-Awsat also said that the US delegation reviewed with Haftar’s proposals for placing the Libyan oil facilities under the supervision of European forces under the auspices of the United Nations.

"The meeting between Haftar and the US delegation was a last chance proposal for the ceasefire agreement." The newspaper indicated, citing sources close to Al-Rajma.

In the meantime, sources told the newspaper that unannounced negotiations by regional parties had kicked off with the aim of convincing Haftar to retreat from Sirte to Ajdabiya in return of the cancelation of Government of National Accord's underway attack on Sirte and Jufra.
