The new United States ambassador to Libya Richard Norland presented Thursday his credentials to the Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala at the Libyan embassy in Tunisia.

Norland has stressed to Sayala that he will be in contact through diplomatic channels with all parties to the conflict in order to reach a speedy end of the crisis.

He said the US supports a ceasefire and a negotiated political resolution for the Libyan conflict.

Norland also met with Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha and discussed with him cooperation between Libya and US security institutions in IT and crime fields - whether in anti-terrorism or in drugs and other issues.

He also reiterated this to the Head of Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj on the phone last week.

Norland was appointed new US ambassador to Libya on August 14 after being named by President Donald Trump and approved by US Senate.
