The US embassy in Libya said on Wednesday that ambassador Richard Norland consulted with senior Turkish officials on his visit to Ankara about the urgent need to support Libyan voices genuinely seeking an end to the conflict and return to UN-facilitated political dialogue, with full respect for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The US embassy added that the visit to Ankara, which followed phone calls between President Trump and President Erdogan, discussed steps to achieve a demilitarized solution for central Libya.
The embassy also indicated that the visit discussed steps to realize a full and reciprocal withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries, enable the National Oil Corporation to resume its critical work, and promote economic transparency and reforms.
Norland visited Cairo two days ago after Trump and El-Sisi as well as the foreign secretaries of the two countries' discussions. He reviewed with Egyptian officials steps to achieve a demilitarized solution for the Libyan conflict, withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces and support for UN-led political process.
He also met in Cairo with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh after discussing many issues with Head of Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha on the phone.
