The United States AFRICOM commander Thomas Waldhauser, and the chargé d'affaires in Libya, Stephanie Williams, visited Tripoli on Thursday and met with the Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj.

The meeting reviewed the Paris declaration of principles and Al-Sirraj told the visiting US officials that it has been a very vital step that could be built upon for a later success with a consensus from all Libyan parties, adding that there are many challenges to implementing it on the ground and "that is why all should work on making it happen."

Williams and the rest of the US officials renewed their country's support for Libya, political process and the Presidential Council government, saying Paris conference was very vital for upcoming stability in Libya, saying all should work with the UNSMIL to implement the agreed upon principles.

The two countries' officials also discussed mechanisms needed to conduct the aspired for elections in Libya, including the constitutional basis. They also discussed the fighting against IS terrorists.

General Waldhauser also stressed on the vitality of cooperation with Libya and the good role played by the Presidential Council (PC), saying AFRICOM are still monitoring the movement of the terrorists in coordination with the PC government.
