The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that it had observed illegal use of force and intimidation against public and private institutions in Tripoli, notably Aman Bank al-Siyahia Branch and the Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company (LAFICO).

"The assaults aimed to seize control of these institutions and gain privileged access to financial resources. Armed men, acting under the guise of providing security or unsubstantiated authority, intimated and, in some cases physically assaulted staff, preventing them from being able to operate effectively", The UNSMIL said in a statement on Thursday.

The mission also pointed out to the need to prosecute the perpetrators of such acts, warning of the severity of interfering in the livelihoods of Libyans and the national wealth of Libya.

The statement called on armed groups to withdraw from state and sovereign institutions and all civilian facilities that they occupy.
