The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has urged participants in the Geneva talks to continue consultations for a compromise solution on the constitutional basis for the national elections on 24 December 2021.

In a statement Saturday, the UNSMIL confirmed that despite the "opportunities", there was no consensus among the LPDF members on the constitutional basis for elections.

"The Mission will continue to work with the LPDF members and the Proposals-Bridging-Committee to explore further efforts to build common ground based on the Legal Committee’s proposal, which all recognize as the reference framework for a constitutional basis for elections."

The UN mission also renewed its rejection of proposals that do not make the elections feasible and possible to hold on 24 December.

On Friday, UNSMIL Coordinator Rizdon Zeninga confirmed that the LPDF has failed to reach an agreement in this round of talks on the constitutional basis for holding elections.
