30 members of the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) have called on the UNSMIL not to put the constitution draft up for discussion in Geneva dialogue meetings or elsewhere.

In a letter to the Head of the UNSMIL, Ghassan Salame and his political deputy Stephenie Williams on Tuesday, the members said the constitutional track is a mix of the foundational committee elected by Libyans and the constitutional referendum, adding that neither the UNSMIL nor any other current political bodies have the right to approve or reject the constitution as the Libyan people are the ones to decide in the referendum.

"The UNSMIL can't take the democratic choice off the hands of Libyans and help execute agendas of powerful personalities that have money, arms and foreign support." The letter reads.

The members called on the UNSMIL not to give its opinion about the Libyan constitution as it is for Libyans to so, calling on national and international parties to respect the constitution draft issued by the CDA and to vow to carry out a referendum so people can have their say.

After Berlin conference on January 19, Salame said the Geneva-based political dialogue for Libyan parties will include all issues, including the fate of the constitution draft.
