The UN Support Mission in Libya has refuted claims by a Tobruk Parliament member that the head of mission is obstructing meetings of the parliament.

In an email sent to Libya Observer on Wednesday, the Media Office of UNSMIL clarified that Ibrahim Zagaid claims that Martin Kobler has ordered the parliament not to meet are untrue.

"The claim that Mr. Kobler has instructed the House of Representatives not to convene is absolutely false and baseless." The Spokesperson of UNSMIL told Libya Observer.

"The Special Representative is exerting all possible efforts to convince the House of Representatives’ members to meet as soon as possible in order to endorse the new Government of National Accord." The UNSMIL spokesperson added.

On Monday, Ibrahim Zagaid declared to Jordan-based Libya Channel that the parliament's inability to meet for the third consecutive week is due to Martin Kobler's instruction to pro-Skhirat agreement members, whom he said are staying in Tunisia and Egypt, not to go for parliament sessions until January 25.
