The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held on Wednesday political talks in Geneva with the presence of 20 Libyan figures, including Tobruk-based and Tripoli-based House of Representatives' members - without official mandate, Bawabet Al-Wasat reported, citing one of the participants in Geneva.

The source said the meeting was preceded by a morning one that discussed the working mechanism and the agenda of the talks, in addition to forming a drafting committee.

The UNSMIL said earlier that the political talks would begin with the attendees - MPs or independent figures, adding that the rest will join later.

The High Council of State and Tripoli-based House of Representatives announced on Monday suspension of participation at the political talks in Geneva until tangible progress comes out of the military talks. Likewise, the Tobruk-based HoR suspended Geneva participation, citing intervention by the UNSMIL in the decision-making process.

According to the newspaper, the independent figures who attended Wednesday political talks in Geneva included former Education Minister Othman Abdeljalil, Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha, former Head of High Council of State Abdelrahman Al-Sweihli.
