The Acting Head of the UN envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams on Monday held the first virtual meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Advisory Committee (AC) composed of 18 LPDF members.

According to the UN Support Mission In Libya (UNSMIL), the meeting discussed the committee's mandate, its tasks, expected outcomes, and the timeframe for its work.

Williams reiterated in her opening remarks that the committee would play an advisory role and will work for a period of two weeks to produce concrete recommendations to address differences that have emerged over the selection mechanism and the nomination procedures of the executive authority, as well as to build consensus among the LPDF members.

"There is now, clear support on the part of the international community for peace in Libya," Williams said, urging the participants to seize the opportunity in order to expedite the establishment of a unified executive authority and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people.

In a related context, the Legal Committee (LC) held its third virtual session on Monday to exchange views on the constitutional arrangements for the national elections.

The proposals put forward included a set of options aimed at facilitating the implementation of the roadmap agreed upon by the LPDF members in mid-November 2020.
