The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed concern over clashes that erupted on Thursday, between two armed groups in the eastern suburb of Tripoli, Tajoura.

The UN mission emphasized on its twitter account that it is following with great concern the hostilities in Tajoura, which took place in a civilian-populated neighborhood, saying it has put civilians in harm’s way.

It called for the immediate cessation of hostilities and reminded all parties of their obligations to respect international humanitarian law, underscoring the urgent need for much-needed reform of the Libyan security sector.

The "Osoud Tajoura" and the "Dhaman" brigades, stationed in Tajoura, exchanged fire with medium and heavy weapons, causing damage to private property.

According to some media outlets, the clashes have resulted in the killing and injury of fighters from both sides, but such information has not been confirmed by any official agency.
