The spokesman for the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Jean Alam, has denied social media news about statements attributed to the Advisor of the UN Secretary General on Libya, Stephanie Williams, preparing a new roadmap for Libya elections.

The rumors say Williams is pushing for a roadmap that sees elections held in Libya by the end of 2023.

Alam said the news is misleading and untrue as part of fake news to derail the mediation efforts, adding that only Libyans can decide on the fate of elections, while UNSMIL is there to bring their visions closer together.

He indicated that Williams is working to lead dialogue among Libyans to implement the three tracks of Berlin Conference, including supporting elections not deciding whether or not they are held.

Alam said Williams is still at the negotiations stage and is listening to all Libyan, social, political, and security parties.
