The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has given new proposals for the voting mechanism on the (Second and Third Options) that were selected by Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) participants to elect new executive authority in the country.

In a letter to the LPDF participants Sunday, circulated on media outlets, UNSMIL said voting started today (Sunday) to select the mechanism for nominating members of the Presidential Council and a Prime Minister, providing two proposals: First - Two thirds of the LPDF votes and 50%+1 from each Libyan region (Tripoli, Fezzan and Cyrenaica) - Second - 61% of LPDF votes and 50%+1 from each region.

The new proposals came after the failure of the previous method (75% of the LPDF votes), amid protests to the new amendment by a number of participants saying the fact of 65% criterion made them miss a very important option in previous days, urging for putting the rejected option for votes again now that the UNSMIL has proposed new rules.

The option that the participants talked about was the exclusion of all persons who had held positions in executive and legislative authorities since 2014 from being nominated to new interim period posts.
