The UN Security Council decided on Thursday to extend the UNSMIL’s mandate for six months until March 15, 2016, urging all Libyan parties to effect an immediate unconditional ceasefire and stressing that there would be no military solution for Libya’s political crisis.

The UNSC called in a resolution for swift formation of the proposed national unity government, urging all parties to come to terms regarding the temporary security measures necessary to stabilize Libya by adhering to the UN-brokered political dialogue.

The UNSC resolution also condemned the violence acts against civilians and civilian institutions, expressing concern about the escalations and tensions going on around Libya, particularly in the south.
