Unidentified warplanes bombed early on Sunday the eastern city of Derna, targeting Shura Council locations and other civilian areas.

Shura Council sources confirmed two of their fighters, who were besieging IS militants, were killed in one of the dawn airstrikes on Al-Hilah district, while another airstrike on Bab Tobruk district left a woman and her child dead.

A mosque and some civilians' houses were also damaged in Bab Tobruk, the sources confirmed. The city's kidney Disease Center was also damaged in the airstrikes.

Eyewitnesses in Al-Fatayah said IS militants were heard cheering and chanting "Allah Akbar", following the airstrikes and are now attempting to advance towards the city, exploiting the chaos caused by the airstrikes.

The Shura Council declared a state of emergency in anticipation of any IS advance towards the city.
