The UNICEF called on Sunday all conflict parties in Libya to stop attacks on water facilities and infrastructure.

In a statement, the UNICEF stressed that access to water is a basic human right and must be a top priority for the state.

It also expressed its deep concern over the targeting of the Man-Made River project in the past few days, noting that it is considered the main source of water for about 60% of the population in Libya.

Several sites of the Man-Made River were subjected to acts of vandalism by unknown persons in the recent days, which resulted in fatalities and injuries.

The attackers also kidnapped a number of foreign workers whose whereabouts is still unknown.
