The UN Security Council said Tuesday that the two sides of the Libyan conflict should reach a ceasefire agreement to revive the political process that aims to end the ongoing war.

The Security Council said in a statement on Tuesday that the member states urge Libyan parties to constructively participate in the Military 5+5 Commission to speed the agreement on the ceasefire.

The Security Council member states welcomed the Berlin conference conclusions, which were reached on Sunday as stakeholders in Libya met to broker a ceasefire and revive political track.

According to diplomats from the UN, the Security Council will start discussing a draft resolution on Libya in the coming days, according to Agence France-Presse.

One of the diplomats said Russia requested at the Security Council meeting that the draft resolution focuses on Berlin conference conclusions without concentrating on the monitoring mechanisms of the potential ceasefire.
