The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on all Libyan parties to halt military escalation and support the efforts of the UN envoy Ghassan Salame.

Spokesman for Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, said the Secretary General called on international actors to help Libyans reach a peaceful solution to the conflict.

He added that it is important that all actors rally around the efforts of the UN via supporting the UN envoy Ghassan Salame to broker a solution to the crisis.

Salame, along with his deputy Stephanie Williams, has met earlier with the Speaker of the Tobruk based House of Representatives Aqila Saleh and urged him to push for ending the fighting and resuming political process.

The UNSMIL said Salame and Williams discussed with Saleh the preparations for the upcoming Berlin international conference and the Libyan track set to begin soon.
