The Head of the Presidential Council, Faye Al-Sirraj, and the commander of the self-styled army in eastern Libya Khalifa Haftar have agreed on the need to end the transitional phase in Libya and head for elections, stability and unity of state institutions, announced USNMIL on Thursday.
UNSMIL said the two rivals met in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday and agreed on having elections in Libya to end the transitional authorities.
Spokesman for Al-Sirraj, Mohammed El Sallak, said the former stressed the need to maintain a civilian authority in Libya, plus holding elections and ending the transitional phase as well as unifying state institutions.
"Al-Sirraj confirmed in the meeting in Abu Dhabi where Salame and Haftar were present that there is no military solution in the country and that civilians must be protected at all times." El Sallak added.
He also added that Al-Sirraj called in the meeting for the end of media hate speech.
Al-Sirraj arrived on Monday to the UAE upon the invitation of Emirati officials to discuss political issues.
In the UAE, Al-Sirraj met with different international and Libyan parties, including the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation Mustafa Sanallah and both agreed to lift force majeure on Sharara oilfield.
Media sources reported that Haftar went to the UAE, but many other outlets denied it saying he refused placing the military command and armed forces under a civilian authority.
