United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville has confirmed that around 284 civilians were killed and more than 360 others injured in 2019, due to armed clashes in Libya.

Colville expressed that the commission's concern was about the impact of the conflict on populated areas, such as Abu Salim and Al-Hadhba, where about 100,000 civilians are at risk of displacement, noting that more than 340,000 have already been displaced.

"The UNHRC is concerned about the persistence of impunity in Libya, the latest was the acquittal of defendants in the trial related to the "Abu Salim Massacre", the UN official added.

He renewed his call for the establishment of a mechanism to investigate serious crimes committed in Libya.
