The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salame, welcomed Wednesday recent calls for a ceasefire in Libya by a number of countries and international and regional organizations, including the joint call by the Presidents of Turkey and Russian.

Salame urged international and Libyan parties to respond positively to these calls and cease all military operations across Libya immediately to spare the country further bloodshed and provide relief to its people who are suffering the woes of this war.

He also encouraged the international community, especially countries concerned with the Libyan crisis, to seize the current momentum and push the Berlin Process forward in order to reach an international consensus.

"The success of the Berlin Process will secure an international umbrella to provide support and protection for the three-track intra-Libyan process, launched by UNSMIL and aimed at addressing the Libyan crisis in all its aspects, economic and financial, military and security, and political." Salame added.

Meanwhile, the Tripoli-based House of Representatives (HoR) hailed in a statement on Wednesday the call for ceasefire, saying all initiatives and solutions shouldn't undermine the rights of the Presidential Council's government and Libyan Army to defend Libyans and their capital Tripoli.

It reiterated that the solution is only via the political process and the party that started the war on Tripoli, killed civilians and destroyed properties cannot be part of it.

Likewise, the High Council of State (HCS) welcomed the Turkish-Russian ceasefire call, saying it is with any initiatives that save the lives of Libyans as long as they don't pose threats to the Libyan Army and forces of the Presidential Council's government.

The HCS added in a statement that calls for dialogue should be based on the Libyan Political Agreement.
