The Head of UNSMIL Ghassan Salame said in an interview with Libya Al-Ahrar TV on Wednesday that some member states at the UN Security Council don't want it to have a vital role in Libya as some of them are biased to one party of the conflict against the other.

Salame said that he doesn't now expect any meetings for Khalifa Haftar and the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and that the political negotiations' parties cannot be identified at this stage.

"The powerful countries in the world are not waiting for my briefing at the Security Council to know what is going on in Libya, they have their own intelligence through their drones and spies. Those countries are split over the conflict in Libya." Salame remarked.

He also said that the UNSMIL asked the Presidential Council's government to prove that Mitiga Airport is being used solely for civilian purposes and that no military action is going on inside it, adding that the UNSMIL documented Haftar's airstrikes on the airport from day one of Tripoli offensive.

He also said that if targeting health facilities continued, the UNSMIL would name the ones striking them as it had made sure the facilities are used for civilian and humanitarian purposes only.

He renewed the call for a truce during Eid Al-Adha, saying a ceasefire agreement is not possible yet but hopefully will come about soon.

Salame said he talked to Haftar about the kidnapping of the member of the House of Representatives Siham Sirgiwa last Sunday but received no details, vowing to continue to look for her whereabouts as he is working with the countries that have influence in the eastern region in Libya to help find her.

Salame indicated that a team of investigators has been formed to probe, along with the panel of experts in Tripoli, the Tajoura migrants' detention center incident and the results will come out in next December.

He indicated that the investigation will disclose the type of the aircraft that air raided the center and the type of missiles as well as what exactly happened when the migrants tried to flee the airstrike.
