The UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame has described the Security Council as "sterile" as it couldn't find solutions to many crises, including the Libyan one after 14 formal meetings.

Salame also called on Security Council member states to agree on their vision for the solution in Libya without excluding the Libyans themselves.

Salame also raised questions about leaving Algeria out of the list of countries invited to take part in the Berlin international conference on Libya despite the active role it has been playing in Libya since 2011.

Speaking on an Algerian TV Channel, Salame said Algeria is bearing the responsibility of fragile security on its borders with Libya and is paying heavy costs for it.

On Tuesday, Salame met in Cairo the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry - Egypt is a staunch backer of Khalifa Haftar's forces - and discussed reviving the political process and the preparations for Berlin conference.
