The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has welcomed the approval of the joint Constitutional Track Committee on the laws governing its work, stressing its continued support for the political process in Libya to reactive the electoral process.

The Constitutional Track Committee concluded a one-week round of talks in Cairo on Monday under the auspices of the United Nations.

In a statement, Williams said the sessions took place in an atmosphere of consensus and that both agreed to continue consultations after Eid Al-Fitr.

She stressed the need for Libyan institutions to provide democratic frameworks for holding elections and called on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to assume their responsibilities and respond to the aspirations of the Libyan people, expressing her hope that the constitutional process would lead to constructive outcomes to resolve the crisis.

Meanwhile, MP Suleiman al-Faqih, said that the HoR and the HCS are 'eager to end the transitional stages.'

"The Constitutional Track Committee is keen to achieve its goals as soon as possible and conduct elections, which results would be acceptable to achieve stability in Libya."

In the same context, the HCS member, Shaaban Abu Sitta, reiterated the importance of the consultations on the constitutional path, saying they are the way out of the political impasse.

He confirmed that the two parties reached agreements on many points and will continue consultations to overcome all standing issues.
