The United Nations said 111 civilians were killed and 120 others were wounded due to fighting so far this year in Libya, including 37 children.

The Humanitarian Coordinator of the UN in Libya, Maria Ribeiro, said in a statement on the World Humanitarian Day that the UN is in solidarity with the people trapped in conflict zones like Derna, adding that those who want to leave the city should be allowed a safe corridor.

She added that the UN and its partners reaffirm that the people trapped in conflict zones are not targets, urging for the respect of the international humanitarian law and human rights law.

"This day aims to raise awareness about the millions of people who are risking their lives to provide food and water for the needy in conflict and natural disasters' zones." Ribeiro added.

She indicated that every day, workers from 35 international and UN organizations work to provide aids in Libya, plunging themselves in risks and hazards.

"In 2017, they aim to provide life-saving aids to 1.3 million people, including Libyans and illegal immigrants as well as the IDPs." She went on.

Ribeiro also explained that the UN workers should be allowed to work safely across Libya to allow life-saving aids to arrive to those who need without delay.
