The British ambassador to Libya, Nicholas Hopton, has affirmed his country stands ready to support the Libyan people, stressing to harness all efforts in this respect.

"In the years to come, we will increasingly bring together our diplomatic, security, defence and development capabilities to support the Libyan people in their journey towards peace, stability, democracy, and prosperity," the ambassador said in an article entitled "A changing world – the UK’s Integrated Review and Libya".

The ambassador indicated the article was to explain to Libyans the new vision of his government and the global role it will play in the next five years.

He expressed the UK's desire to enhance its engagement in international institutions like the UN, saying that this would permit the UK to play a more active role to resolve the conflict in Libya.

"We want to help to address the drivers of conflict, promote effective governance, democratic institutions and the rule of law and use our global sanctions regime to pursue those who abuse human rights," Hopton said.

Hopton pointed out that a permanent seat at the Security Council and the UK's penholder role in Libya will provide a platform for his government to influence and drive action from the international community.
