The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency “TIKA” held an opening ceremony to mark the inauguration of a sports club for the deaf in the Municipality of Hay Al-Andalus in the capital, Tripoli.

The Anadolu Agency quoted TIKA's coordinator in Libya, Ghayath Eddin Karabah, as saying that the club will start with teaching deaf people sign language to facilitate their communication with their families.

"The sign language courses will also target families of deaf persons, with the courses performed in stages to include children, junior, and adults," Karabah said.

The club will provide vocational and computer education for the deaf to facilitate their adaptation in their workplaces, as well as providing psychological support services.

According to official figures, the number of people with auditory disabilities amounts to 45,000, 5,000 of whom reside in Tripoli, the TIKA official added.
