The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament called on the General Assembly to convene in an emergency meeting on January 02 to vote on a motion to deploy Turkish troops to Libya.

The Speaker said Monday that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office had sent the motion to the Parliament for approval.

This move was preceded by statements by Turkish Justice and Development Party officials and the Foreign Minister Mavlut Çavuşoğlu, who told reporters Monday that the deployment motion was sent to the Parliament.

Çavuşoğlu talked before that to opposition party leaders in Turkey to rally support for the motion a week after Erdogan said Ankara would send troops to assist Libya's Presidential Council's government, which he said is recognized by the international community as the only legitimate body in the country.

Speeding up the military support by Turkey comes amid European and Arab efforts, especially Haftar's backers, to pressure Fayez Al-Sarraj to withdraw the request for support from Turkey, with some leaks saying that some efforts aim to impose a no-fly zone in Libya.
