The Turkish Foreign Minister Mavlut Cavusoglu has stressed the need for stopping Khalifa Haftar and his supporters from attacking civilians in the coming period of time, urging NATO to play an important role in this phase.

Cavusoglu told reporters on Friday that Haftar and his supporters had become more violent and hostile as they continued their attacks on civilians following their losses on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister reiterated that the Government of National Accord had been achieving military victories and advancing on more positions on the ground, while Haftar was carrying out retaliatory attacks on civilians.

Cavusoglu criticized France's stance in Libya, saying Ankara can understand why Egypt and the UAE are supporting Haftar, but it cannot fathom why an EU country and a NATO member like France is supporting him publicly, adding that Haftar's forces couldn't carry out their aggression on Tripoli after the intervention of Turkey.

"Turkey believes that only political solutions can end the Libyan conflict and is working to achieve a ceasefire in the country." Cavusoglu added.
