The Turkish Embassy in Tripoli has reopened after about two and a half years of closure, announced the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday.
"Reopening our embassy in Libya's capital will allow Turkey to strongly engage in the efforts aiming at restoring peace and stability in Libya as well as reconstructing the country." The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Ahmet Aydın Doğan, has himself supervised the preparations for the reopening, according to the Foreign Ministry, which said they decreased the number of staffers in the embassy for the time being.
This step by Turkey comes after the Italian government had reopened its embassy in Tripoli early this month.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry added that Turkey will always support the unity and sovereignty of Libya's territories.
Turkey shut down its embassy back in 2014 and the Turkish Ambassador and attache moved to Tunisia, while the Turkish consulate remained operating in Misrata.
