The Turkish National Security Council urged Wednesday all parties in Libya for restraint and refraining from steps that could cause new clashes.

Turkey urged as well the Libyan authorities to follow democratic processes on a basis of legitimacy for the achievement of lasting peace and stability, Reuters reported.

“After an almost four-hour meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, the National Security Council said a calm in Libya that was achieved through big sacrifices was an opportunity for peace.” The report adds.

Turkey proposed, early in March at a diplomatic seminar in Antalya, to host direct talks between Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbiebah and PM-designate Fathi Bashagha, which was supported by the US ambassador Richard Norland; however, no such talks have been held so far.
