Tunisian Foreign Minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui, renewed his country's call to stop the fighting in Libya and return to the UN-led political path, stressing rejection of any military solution to the crisis.

This came during his meeting with the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council, accredited to Tunisia, which includes France, the US, Britain, China, and Russia, at the ministry's HQ in Tunis, on Thursday.

The discussions included the developing situation in Libya and ways to enhance coordination and consultation for the success of international efforts to achieve international peace and security.

Jhinaoui emphasized the importance and centrality of the Libyan file and its direct impact on the security and economic situation in Tunisia.

He also reaffirmed Tunisia's firm position on the conflict in Libya, urging the regional states concerned, to stop negative interference in the Libyan affairs.

The Tunisian state is pursuing efforts to restore stability in Libya since it is strongly influenced by the security, economic, and social conditions of its eastern neighbour.
