Tuareg and Tabu representatives in the Constituent Assembly of Libya have suspended their membership on disagreement grounds, totally rejecting all its forthcoming propositions and drafts, considering them as illegitimate and unrepresentative.

In a joint statement, the Tuareg and Tabu representatives indicated that the Constituent Assembly violated the constitutional declaration and diverted from the fundamentals of building a democratic and multicultural state when it carelessly avoided commitment to be at concord with the minorities as per the constitutional declaration.

They also blamed the assembly of excluding Tuareg and Tabu tribes from the Action Committee of the assembly, according to the statement.

“All of the Libyan society components as well as the international community should commit the Constituent Assembly to respect the constitutional declaration, which calls for unity and concord with Tuareg, Tabu and Amazigh tribes, and the Constituent Assembly should also fulfil its promise that it would draft a modern unity constitution that realizes all Libyans’ dreams, ambitions, and aspirations.” Concluded the statement.

On Wednesday, the Constituent Assembly requested GNC President Nuri Abu Sahmain to provide the necessary financial resources to relocate the HQs of the assembly from Al-Bayda to Ghadames to hold its sessions there for a month, starting from the first of September 2015.
