The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al- Sarraj said the attack on Tripoli has aborted the efforts to found a constitutional basis to end the transitional phase in Libya.

In his meeting with the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) on Tuesday, Al- Sarraj said the role of his government is for a transitional stage to pave the way for a constitution, supervise referendum and hold general elections.

"This was aborted by many local and international parties and the recent form of hindrances was the attack on Tripoli." Al-Sarraj added.

He also remarked that some of the criticisms aimed at the work of the CDA were politically motivated, while others were fears that some people would be out of chances regarding state positions' appointments, indicating that some people rejected the constitution without even reading it.

"I wished that the House of Representatives and High Council of State would have agreed on holding a referendum and issuing needed laws not shameful ones." Al- Sarraj remarked.

"Constitution is the top legislation in Libya and will be made so by the votes of Libyans via a referendum. The Presidential Council was the first body to welcome the final draft of the constitution as it believed that the country will only be stable when it has a permanent constitutional basis." Al- Sarraj said.

The meeting is part of Al- Sarraj's series of meetings with national entities to "find a shared national vision for the future of Libya after the end of the Tripoli offensive."
