The Chairman of Libyan Civil Aviation Authority Naser Al-Deen Shaeb Elain has announced suspension of flights at Tripoli's Mitiga Airport until a further notice.

The airport's Facebook page posted Monday a statement saying airliners had started operating from Misrata Airport and that all passengers can fly using their booked tickets with no alterations.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister of transportation Hisham Bushikawat said only emergency flights will be landing at and taking off from Mitiga Airport as the airport has become a threat to the workers and passengers' lives alike.

"The ministry has put in place a plan for flights at Misrata Airport in order to avoid any overlapping or crowdiness, given the fact that the airport is not that large and isn't used to such a number of flights." The deputy minister explained.

Libyan Airlines, Afriqiyah Airways, Buraq Air and Libyan Wings announced Sunday that their flights would be to Misrata Airport until a further notice.

Mitiga Airport was by Khalifa Haftar's forces when a flight of hajis was landing coming from Saudi Arabia.

Four people, three of whom were hajis, have been injured and others have been left in shock and panic, while the airport and a plane received some damages due to the shelling.
