A number of Tripoli mayors agreed on Wednesday to activate the Council of Tripoli Municipalities. During their meeting in Tajoura, the mayors agreed to select a one-month chairmanship for the council, which will then turn into a rotational one among the municipalities.

The meeting mandated the chairmanship to draft the rules of procedure for the council, call meetings, communicate with other Libyan municipalities and all other public and private institutions, arrange for meetings with the notables and all the security departments that supervise and participate in the security of the capital, and claim the budgets necessary for the municipalities to do their jobs.

The mayors also agreed not to interfere in politics and focus only on providing services to their citizens.

The municipalities are complaining about lack of budget from the government which reflected on their performance. Nevertheless, many municipalities have found alternatives to offer services and undergo infrastructure works in the areas.
