The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, has expressed support for the Presidential Council's efforts to bring about stability and security in Libya.

In a meeting with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj in Tripoli on Tuesday, Prince Al-Hussein and the accompanying delegation reiterated the international body's assistance to Libya in ending the current crisis, citing the hazards posed to human rights in Libya by illegal immigration and terrorism as well as illegitimate armed groups.

Al-Sirraj, meanwhile, told the High Commissioner that human rights protection is top on the list for the Government of National Accord, welcoming the cooperation.

"Illegal immigration is bothering Libya as it is a crossing country and thus bears lots of burdens amid its current crises. We have blueprinted some strategies in cooperation with friend countries to secure southern borders, which are the hub of immigrants and smugglers who have among them several terrorists, according to reports." Al-Sirraj explained.

He also said that his government is doing its best to improve the living conditions at the migrants' shelter centers till the migrants get repatriated to their countries, indicating that boosting the economic conditions in those countries would help solve this intricate entanglement.

"Stability in Libya could as well be the end of the illegal immigration once and for all and hundreds of thousands of African workers could come legally for work in Libya in construction projects, just like in the past." Al-Sirraj added.

He also said that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the delegation accompanying him could follow up on the human rights issues in Libya freely, saying he is against any violations and if any were done, he would make sure to bring the perpetrators to justice.
